A joint mission
Raising awareness
The Beyond the Big Five foundation focuses on the less iconic, but evenly endangered animal species.
Ask a child to name his or her favorite animal and chances are they will say 'lion', 'giraffe' or 'elephant'. When we are at the zoo, we look at the tiger with admiration, and in books we have no trouble pointing out the dolphin.
BB5 aims, by means of education, to make children ánd adults look at lesser known animals with the same kind of recognition, enthusiasm and admiration.
Through informative reporting on our social media channels and by visiting (elementary) schools, we strive to make the general public more familiar with these animals.
We strongly believe that, as a result of growing awareness, people will develop a stronger affinity with these incredible species.
This awareness is crucial: for the survival of species, for the conservation of biodiversity in their habitat and for the sustainability of the planet.
Supporting projects
In addition to our educational goals, Beyond the Big Five focuses on the conservation of animal species and their habitat. By means of financial support for projects that aim at preventing extinction and protecting animals and their habitat, we contribute to the conservation of these species.
Human - wildlife conflicts are the main threats for animal species. These threats are caused by poaching, loss of habitat caused by deforestation and fragmentation, and environmental pollution caused by greenhouse gasses and the excessive production of plastic waste.
To be able to create and protect a safe habitat, collaboration with the local population is essential. Man and nature need to live side by side, so a harmonious co-existence is a common goal.
